Matias de Oliveira Pinto was born in São Paulo, where he started his studies. In 1980 he moved to Berlin to study at the Herbert Von Karajan Academy. He later studied at the Berlin University of the Arts (HdK) and the Fraz Liszt Academy, in Budapest.
A highly regarded pedagogue, Matias is professor at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) and University of Münster and frequently gives masterclasses around the world. He regularly tours in the US, South America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia, giving recitals in important festivals.
Artistic Director of the festival CelloHerbst, in Germany, Matias also conducts around Europe. In Berlin, he has played in the most important halls, such as the Philharmonie, Konzerthaus, Appollo-Saal Der Staatsoper, among others. He has recorded albums for the labels Academy, KreuzbergRecords, Bella Musica, HungarotonClassics e Cello Colors.
